Patient Data

Age: 70-year-old
Gender: Female

MRI Brain (selected images)

Modality: MRI

No steno-occlusive disease or an intracranial aneurysm is demonstrated on time-of-flight MRA. Incidental note of duplicated left middle cerebral artery.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates an anatomical variant characterised by two large vessels originating from the distal end of the internal carotid artery, a condition named as duplicated middle cerebral artery. This must be differentiated from another variant in which the anomalous vessel originates from the anterior cerebral artery, named as the accessory middle cerebral artery
