Thrombose biLat dural transverse sinuses
Thrombosis of bilateral transverse dural sinuses, with lack of flow, revealing decreased signal intensity. Acute right dural venous thrombosis. No infarct, haemorrhage, or hydrocephalus.
Case Discussion
Thrombosis of bilateral transverse dural sinuses was noted, especially on the right side. Anecdotally, the right transverse dural sinus is dominant in 80-90% of adult patients.
The presence of an occipital sinus decreases with age.1 In this patient, a prominent occipital sinus was noted on the right side. The occipital sinus provided collateral drainage for cerebral venous flow to the internal jugular vein. Due to a lack of any complications (i.e. haemorrhage, hydrocephalus), patient deferred any interventional endovascular treatment such as thrombectomy or a TPA thrombolysis.
