Dural venous sinus thrombosis

Case contributed by Dr Balint Botz

Presentation

Right-sided headache that has been gradually worsening over a few days. Intracranial bleeding? Sinus thrombosis?

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

On the non-contrast scan, hyperdense material is filling the right transverse and sigmoid sinus and is partially extending into the superior sagittal sinus.

CT venography confirms filling defects in the respective segments, confirming dural venous sinus thrombosis

Case Discussion

Keeping an eye on the density of the dural venous sinuses on non-contrast scans is critical as the thrombus is not necessarily so strikingly hyperdense initially as in this case.
