Routine pregnancy ultrasound

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Anomaly ultrasound of a 21-week fetus. Ultrasound cine clip shows a unilateral intraventricular echogenic focus in a normal 4-chamber fetal heart.

No fetal anomaly was observed during the study.

Case Discussion

The presence of an echogenic intracardiac focus in an otherwise normal fetus typically requires no further follow-up.

In high-risk pregnancies, it is associated with an increased incidence of aneuploidy and is classified as a soft marker. The presence of multiple or bilateral (more than one chamber) echogenic foci is considered to increase the risk.
