Ectopic posterior pituitary

Case contributed by Dr Heba Abdelmonem

Presentation

Galactorrhea.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
MRI

Sagittal T1 images demonstrate an ectopic location of the posterior pituitary bright spot, seen on the superior surface of the gland instead of being posterior to the gland. Dynamic study of the gland within 0 to 3 minutes post contrast administration shows a normal appearance of the anterior pituitary gland with no mass. Minimal leftwards deviation of the stalk.

Case Discussion

Apart from the ectopic location of the hot spot, no other cause to explain the abnormal hormonal imbalance in this patient.
