Elbow osteoarthritis with synovial chondromatosis of subtendinous olecranon bursa

Xray shows the formation marginal of osteophytes and the ossification in the olecranon fossa.



There are numerous small, well-defined, ‘ring-and-arc’ calcific bodies in the subtendinous olecranon bursa, compatible with synovial osteochondromatosis.
Calcification of loose body is also present in the coronoid fossa and eroded bone beneath a body.
The osteophytes, subchondral sclerosis, and geodes are consistent with osteoarthritis.



Loose bodies show heterogeneous signals on T1, PD fat sat.
There is a near-complete loss of articular cartilage covering surfaces of radiohumeral joint, exposing the subchondral bone and defect articular cartilage of ulnohumeral joint.
The bone marrow edema, joint effusion, osteophytes, subchondral sclerosis, and geodes are also seen.
Case Discussion
This case illustrates the osteoarthritis of the elbow with secondary synovial chondromatosis of subtendinous olecranon bursa, which occurs in older age and associated degenerative change.
