Elbow synovial fold syndrome

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Lateral elbow pain, snapping

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
mri

Thickened and irregular synovial fold/plica (measuring ~3.3mm in max thickness) is seen  in posterolateral aspect of elbow joint between the radial head and capitellum. Suspicious loss of articular cartilage is seen along medial aspect of capitellum (medial to pseudodefect of capitellum). No significant marrow edema is seen in present scan.

Mild common extensor tendinosis is seen with no obvious tear.

Lateral collateral and lateral ulnar collateral ligaments are unremarkable.

Common flexor origin and ulnar collateral ligament are unremarkable.

 

 

Case Discussion

Findings suggest likelihood of elbow synovial fold syndrome which is the probable cause of pain in this patient.

Patient was previously treated with PRP injection for lateral epicondylitis and did not have any relief.
