Elevated right hemidiaphragm: post lobectomy

Annual chest radiograph obtained to monitor disease progression following lobectomy of a right upper lobe adenocarcinoma.

Patient Data

Age: 63
Gender: Male

Frontal plain radiograph showing an elevated right hemidiaphragm post right upper lobectomy.

Note how the right hilum is pulled up to the same position as the left ( usually it will be lower ).

Multiple old left sided rib fractures.

Residual lungs clear.

Case Discussion

There are numerous etiologies of an elevated right hemidiaphragm. Post-op lobectomy is one of the differential diagnosis to bear in mind with regards to causes originating above the diaphragm.
