Hypodense oval lesion measuring 24x16x15 mm with rim enhancement in soft palate, left of midline.
Numerous cervical lymph nodes up to 15 mm in diameter.
Case Discussion
13-year old previously healthy girl presented with a sore throat and epistaxis. The latter ceased spontaneously. Unremarkable medical history, except for recurrent tonsillitis as a toddler.
Endoscopy of oral cavity and oropharynx was normal.
Late arterial phase CT of neck demonstrated a small hypodense lesion with enhancing rim in the soft palate, left of midline. Thoracic and abdominal contrast-enhanced CT (not shown) did not reveal metastatic spread. Lesion promptly resected.
Patohlogy report: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.
Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children.
