Diabetic patient presents 'off-legs', dehydrated, fever, abdominal pain. ?infection

Patient Data

Age: 78
Gender: Male

Supine abdominal x-ray

Gas is seen in the bladder wall in keeping with emphysematous cystitis. 


3mm Axial CT

The bladder is catheterised and collapsed. Gas is seen within the wall of the bladder in keeping with emphysematous cystitis. 

Case Discussion

The diagnosis of emphysematous cystitis was made on imaging that was performed for rather vague abdominal symptoms.
