Diabetic patient presents 'off-legs', dehydrated, fever, abdominal pain. ?infection

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

Supine abdominal x-ray


Gas is seen in the bladder wall in keeping with emphysematous cystitis. 

3mm Axial CT


The bladder is catheterized and collapsed. Gas is seen within the wall of the bladder in keeping with emphysematous cystitis. 

Case Discussion

The diagnosis of emphysematous cystitis was made on imaging that was performed for rather vague abdominal symptoms.
