Balloned sella with flattened gland against the sellar floor together with central stalk.
This 39 year old female suffers from headaches. MRI shows enlarged ballooned sella with flattened pituitary gland as well as the central stalk. The infundibulum sign illustrated.
The rest of the study is unremarkable. No gross lesions explain the patient symptoms. An empty sella can be an anatomical variant or can be a sign of an underlying condition such idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
