7 yrs Boy. Fever - cough - 1 wk.

Modality: Ultrasound

Anechoic central areas with well defined walls suggesting split pleura sign.
Air in lung shows reverberation artifact deep to lesion.

Case Discussion

CXR - Left costo-phrenic region ground glass haziness along chest wall.

USG - Two distinct layers of thickend pleural seen with central avascular hypoechoic areas. High vascularity is seen in thickened pleura.

Findings favour small developing empyma.
