Encephalocele with arachnoid cyst

Bulging the in the glabellar region since birth.

Patient Data

Age: 30 days
Gender: Male

Bony defect is noted in the lower midline frontal bones at the glabellar region (20 mm in transverse diameter) with herniation of the cerebral tissue.

Encephalomalacic changes in the frontal region.

CSF attenuating lesion anterior to the right middle cranial fossa measuring 5.6 x 3 x 1.7 cm.

Ventricular system appears normal. No evidence of hydrocephalus. Gray white matter differentiation is preserved. Posterior fossa appears unremarkable.

Case Discussion

A low lying interfrontal encephalocele with mild encephalomalacic changes of the affected region associated with an arachnoid cyst in the right middle cranial fossa.
