Presentation
A case of left breast malignant phyllodes underwent mastectomy. Staging PET/NAF revealed increased uptake at the left distal femoral shaft.
Patient Data
An intramedullary subtle lucent lesion with foci of calcifications (chondroid matrix) of the distal femoral diaphysis.
Case Discussion
Radiographic features are suggestive of an enchondroma. Follow-up to exclude the possibility of a low-grade chondrosarcoma has been recommended.
Enchondromas are a relatively common benign medullary cartilaginous neoplasm with benign imaging features. Enchondromas are most frequently diagnosed in childhood to early adulthood with a peak incidence at 10-30 years old. Mostly, they are an incidental finding. They are usually asymptomatic but may be complicated by a pathological fracture or malignant transformation into chondrosarcoma, which is rare.
