Encrusted retained stent fragment in ileal conduit

Past history of cystectomy with creation of an ileal conduit. Previous fractured ureteric stent with retained pigtail in the proximal conduit. Now haematuria.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

Pigtail stent fragment in the proximal ileal conduit, which is now encrusted with two large calculi (arrows).


Four years prior

Pigtail stent fragment in the proximal ileal conduit (arrowed) without associated calcification. 

Case Discussion

Foreign bodies in the urinary tract including conduits act as a foreign body and become ecrusted with urinary salts over time.
