Presentation

Urolithiasis. Left ureteric stent. Follow up prior to stent removal.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Left ureteric stent.

Marked peristent calcification of the distal pigtail in the urinary bladder.

Multiple left renal stones

Left ureteric stent.

Severe left hydronephrosis.

Multiple sub centimeter stones in the lower pole of the left kidney.

Extensive calcification adherent to the distal pigtail of the ureteric stent.

Case Discussion

Ureteric stents may become encrusted when they have been left longer than the desired period before an exchange is undertaken.

In a small proportion of patients, encrustation can occur even within the typical period of 3 months between stent exchange.
