Presentation
Left inguinal mass, no skin discolouration.
Patient Data
Cystic structure seen along the left spermatic cord without communication to peritoneum or peritesticular fluid, which suggests encysted spermatic cord hydrocele.
Case Discussion
The patient had no history of vomiting or constipation. The patient was a full-term infant born by normal vaginal delivery. There was no important past medical, surgical, or family history. On examination, the patient’s abdomen was soft, non-tender, and non-distended, and there were normal active bowel sounds. A soft swelling was palpated in the right inguinal canal. The testes were descended bilaterally and were non-tender to palpation. Plain abdominal radiography revealed no evidence of intestinal obstruction or perforation.
Ultrasonography (US) was then performed to further evaluate the nature of this swelling.
It showed fluid collection does not communicate with the peritoneum above or the tunica vaginalis below, as in the provided images, These findings are classic fore encysted hydrocele on ultrasonography.
