Endo clip or haemo clip

Case contributed by Dr Jayanth Keshavamurthy

Presentation

58 year old male for abdominal pain.Post - operative KUB radiograph.

Patient Data

Age: 58
Gender: Male

Can you name the clips in right upper quadrant. How was the clip placed ? What should radiologist know about it ?

Modality: X-ray

Post surgical skin staples.

Cholecystectomy clips.

Endo clip or hemo clip is seen overlying right upper quadrant. It was placed by upper endoscopy.

Modality: X-ray

The endoclip has since passed out of bowel. The endoclip is usually defecated out. So when you see it moving in KUB radiograph it is usually normal.

Modality: Annotated image

This clip has a central opening unlike the adjoining cholecystectomy clips. It is placed by endoscopy.

Case Discussion

These clips are placed endoscopically for bleeding vessels and mucosal lesions within upper and lower GI tract.

I have seen it used to anchor the oesophageal wall stent to mucosa in our hospital.
