Endometrial polyp

Case contributed by Rania Adel Anan
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

An oval-shaped near homogenously echogenic mass is seen distending the endometrial cavity being surrounded by a rim of endometrial fluid and showing a vascular stalk on Doppler interrogation. The feeding vessel indicates the stalk attachment of the polyp to the uterus. The mass measures about 2.4 x 3.7 x 4.5 cm.

The uterus is bulky for age with diffusely thickened heterogeneous myometrium that shows multiple minute echogenic foci suggesting diffuse adenomyosis.

Bilateral few ovarian small simple cysts are also noted, the largest measures about 2.5 x 3.5 cm.

Case Discussion

Sonographic findings are in keeping with an endometrial polyp.
