Presentation

Organophosphate poisoning and abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Abdominopelvic CT scan with IV and oral contrast demonstrates a long segment of diffuse and circumferential mural wall thickening of the small bowel, likely representing enteritis.

Abdominal free fluid and bilateral mild pleural effusion are seen.

No evidence of pneumoperitoneum is seen.

Organophosphate poisoning is caused by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) at the cholinergic junction of the nervous system 1. Enteritis is one of the complications of organophosphate poisoning.
