Epidural blood patch

Low pressure headache.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male

Sterile technique. 1% lignocaine to skin. Under fluoroscopic guidance a spinal needle was advanced to the epidural space at L2/3, and position confirmed with the injection of 5 mL Omnipaque 240. Subsequently, 25 mL solution of 20 mL of autologous blood and 5 mL Omnipaque 240 was injected into the epidural space with good spread.

Case Discussion

Epidural blood patches are a relatively common procedure performed for low pressure headache associated with craniospinal hypotension or post lumbar puncture headache.
