Extradural hematoma - venous

Extensive linear fracture at the vertex of the skull involving the sagittal suture, with a subgaleal hematoma above, and an underlying large extradural hematoma. The extradural hematoma displaces the superior sagittal sinus inferiorly and compresses the underlying parenchyma.
Case Discussion
The findings described are consistent with a traumatic epidural hematoma due to venous bleeding from the superior sagittal sinus. Note, that unlike most extradural hematomas, this bleed crosses the superior sagittal suture as the periosteal layer of the dura is disrupted by the fracture.
