Presentation

Left iliac abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Fusiform area of hypoattenuation seen in the left iliac region adjacent to the distal part of the descending colon, averaging 4 x 1 cm in axial dimension.  It is surrounded by a hyperdense halo that mildly enhances as well as minimal stranding of the surrounding fat planes.

Case Discussion

Epiploic appendagitis is a common cause of left iliac abdominal pain as the descending colon is rich with epiploic appendages. It appears as a focal area of fat stranding in CT with hyperdense peripheral halo that may enhance.
