Epiploic appendagitis

Left iliac abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Male

CT abdomen with contrast

Fusiform area of hypoattenuation seen in the left iliac region adjacent to the distal part of the descending colon, averaging 4 x 1 cm in axial dimension.  It is surrounded by a hyperdense halo that mildly enhances as well as minimal stranding of the surrounding fat planes.

Case Discussion

Epiploic appendagitis is common cause of left iliac abdominal pain as the descending colon is rich with Epiploic appendages. It appears as focal area of fat stranding in CT with hyperdense peripheral halo that may enhance.
