Epiploic appendagitis

Case contributed by Dr Christophe Schepers

Heavy cramps in hypogastrium. No fever.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Ovoid hypodense structure adjacent to the anterior aspect of the sigmoïd. Thin hyperdense rim with inflammatory fat stranding around the hypodense structure.
Discrete wall-thickening of the adjacent sigmoïd.  Also thickening of the peritoneum locally.

On coronal image a hyperdense center in the hypodense ovioid structure is visualised suggesting thrombosis of the inlying vascular structure(s).

Case Discussion

The imaging features are highly suggestive for epiploic appendagitis.
