Epiploic appendagitis

Abdominal pain localized to the left lower quadrant.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Area of fat stranding with hyperdense peripheral halo is noted in the left lower quadrant adjacent to the descending colon. No free fluid or free gas.

Case Discussion

Features are consistent with epiploic appendagitis which is inflammation of the appendix epiploica and it is a mimic of diverticulitis. The inflamed appendage is classically located on the anterior aspect of the sigmoid or descending colon.
