Presentation

Acute left lower quadrant abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

CT abdomen & pelvis

CT of the abdomen & pelvis demonstrates a fat-density pericolic ovoid lesion in the left lower quadrant with thin enhancing rim and surrounding fat stranding.  This lesion abuts the proximal portion of the sigmoid colon. No free gas or fluid collection around the colon.

Gallstone, right renal simple cyst, several uterine fibroids noted.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates the typical appearance of epiploic appendagitis, with self-limiting inflammation of appendix epiploica of the colon. No surgical treatment is usually required.
