Presentation

Generalized abdominal pain. Left iliac fossa tenderness. No features of sepsis and no guarding. Passing flatus.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Background sigmoid diverticulosis. Fat density lesion on the lateral aspect of the proximal-sigmoid colon with a central area of high attenuation and surrounding fat corruption; features consistent with epiploic appendagitis.

Case Discussion

Epiploic appendagitis is usually seen in middle-aged men with a history of diabetes. They are an important cause of abdominal pain since they are managed with supportive care only and do not require a laparotomy.
