Presentation

Pain and swelling at base of thumb. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Focal soft tissue swelling is present adjoining the radial border of the first carpo-metacarpal joint.

Incidental note is made of a small well corticated osseous density in the intercarpal joint space between the lunate, triquetral, capitate and hamate bones.

Case Discussion

Epipyramis or os epitriquetrum is a rare accessory ossicle of the wrist. It is located at the dorsal aspect of the medial intercarpal space between the lunate, triquetral, capitate and hamate bones.

The patient did not have any symptoms in relation to the accessory ossicle.
