Presentation

Aspiration during early feeding.

Patient Data

Age: 4 days
Gender: Male
x-ray

Frontal projection x-ray shows normal chest and abdominal radiographic findings including normal GI gas pattern. 

Fluoroscopy
  • the patient was given the non-ionic contrast through unsuccessful placed NG tube
  • upper part of esophagus was opacified showing significant dilatation with abrupt cut off
  • no distal passage was noted
  • then the given contrast was brought out to avoid aspiration

Case Discussion

The constellation of features are consistent with esophageal atresia type C (proximal esophageal atresia with distal tracheo-esophageal fistula)
