Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
ct

A sharply marginated cystic mass lesion measuring ( 56 x 41.5 x 46 mm TRA*AP*CC) was seen expanding the lower thoracic esophagus (the mass is intramurally arising from the right lateral aspect about 3 cm above the esophageal hiatus) causing smooth outer esophageal contour bulge.

The cyst is thin-walled with punctate mural calcification and homogeneous internal fluid density indenting/narrowing the esophageal lumen with noticeable mild wall thickening suggesting associated esophagitis, however, is no overlying mucosal ulceration, no feature of infection or hemorrhage, no luminal communication, no rupture, no solid enhancing component. On the targeted US, the cyst shows anechoic internal content.

Incidental finding of an azygous lobe.

Case Discussion

Features of lower thoracic esophageal duplication cyst, no infection or rupture.
