Case Discussion

There is a differential for smooth-bordered esophageal masses, including leiomyoma, GIST, nerve sheath tumor, and extrinsic impression (e.g. lymphadenopathy). Of the benign lesions arising from the esophagus, leiomyoma is the most common, and, indeed, in this case, the mass was worked up and found to be a leiomyoma.
