Case Discussion
An esophageal stent is a small, cylindrical device that can be used to open up a narrowed or blocked section of the esophagus in infants. The stent is inserted through an endoscope (a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light on the end) and is positioned to hold open the narrowed or blocked section of the esophagus. This allows food and liquids to pass through more easily and can help alleviate symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, choking, and recurrent pneumonia.
