Presentation
ETT, UVC and NG tube inserted. Check positions.
Patient Data
There is differential transradiance of the hemithoraces because of collapse on the left. The cause is the tip of the ETT in the ostium of the right main bronchus.
Annotations of the lines and tubes including the position of the ETT in relation to the carina and the right main bronchus.
Case Discussion
There has been partial left lung collapse secondary to intubation of the right main bronchus. This is usually accidental and a prompt telephone call to ITU/NNU will ensure that the clinical staff are aware in a timely manner and able to rectify tube position. In most cases, they will have already noticed that the tube position is not correct, but you shouldn't assume that's the case.
