Extensive DCIS

A 55 year old female presented to her family physician with swelling of the left breast following a recent rural camping trip.

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Female

Significant findings in the left breast include calcifications of DCIS throughout the left breast, a spiculated mass lateral supriorly and diffuse skin thickening throughout with nipple retraction.


Conventional diagnostic mammogram and left breats ultrasound.

Diffuse skin thickening and edema of the left breast noted on ultrasound.

Case Discussion

The pertinent observations would suggest extensive DCIS with a focal component of IDC and lymphatic extention manifesting as skin thickening i.e. orange skin peau d'orange.
