Extensive leptomeningeal seeding

Case contributed by Assoc Prof Frank Gaillard

Previous ependymoma excised as a child.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years

Cx spine MRI

Extensive leptomeningeal enhancement is evident from the base of skull to the cauda equina, especially superiorly where nodular contrast enhancing tissue surrounds the medulla and contents of the posterior fossa (better seen on the recent MRI of the brain) and dorsal to the upper thoracic cord. No compression and no syrinx.

Brain MRI

Prior left retrosigmoid craniotomy. Extensive cerebellopontine angle and leptomeningeal enhancement.

Case Discussion

Extensive leptomeningeal CSF seeding, presumably from the prior resected ependymoma
