Presentation
Cut injury (glass) to the mid-forearm dorsal aspect four weeks prior. Swelling at the site of injury after skin suturing, no tendon repair was done.
Patient Data
There is a complete tear of the extensor carpi radialis brevis near its myotendinous junction in the mid-forearm. The gap between the two retracted edges is about 45 mm.
Extensor carpi radialis longus is intact.
There is a resolving subcutaneous hematoma at the site of injury.
Intraoperative photos show the tear of the extensor carpi radialis brevis, the harvest of the palmaris longus graft, graft placement, and reconstruction of the defect.
There is an absent palmaris longus tendon in the normal location since it was used as a graft. The reconstructed extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon appears intact in the static images. It was also intact in the dynamic scan (images not uploaded).
Case Discussion
Findings of extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon tear due to cut injury by the glass. Surgical reconstruction was done using palmaris longus. Post-operative ultrasound shows expected findings.
