Presentation

Right wrist ulnar side burning pain and restriction of movements since 3 months ago. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

Distal end of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon shows focal thickening with complete short segment longitudinal tear which appears undisplaced in the ulnar bony groove under the overlying extensor retinaculum.

The tendon sheath and subsheath display edematous changes with fluid surrounding the tendon.

Evidence of soft tissue edema at the ulnar side of the wrist with minimal edema at outer fibers of ulnomeniscal homolog.

No obvious subluxation of the tendon within its sheath or in relation to the ulnar bony groove.

Case Discussion

MRI findings suggest extensor carpi ulnaris tendinosis with a short segment complete longitudinal tear surrounded by edematous changes within and outside of the tendon sheath.
