Presentation

Cut injury to the dorsum of the midfoot a few hours ago. Loss of great toe extension.

Patient Data

Age: 17 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a skin - subcutaneous plane defect in the dorsum of the midfoot. The underlying extensor hallucis longus tendon shows discontinuity. Minimum distance between two edges of the tendon (with the foot in a neutral position) is 20 mm. 

Dorsalis pedis artery is patent.

Case Discussion

There is a case of cut injury to dorsum of the midfoot with loss of great toe extension. Ultrasound shows a complete tear of the extensor hallucis longus tendon deep to skin breach.

Surgery revealed a complete tendon cut, which was repaired.
