Blunt injury to right thumb dorsum - 2 days back. Referred to check extensor pollicis longus tendon integrity.

Extensor pollicis longus tendon tear

Extensor pollicis longus tendon:
- complete tear at metacarpophalangeal joint level
- gap between two torn ends - about 6 mm
- dstal-most part of the tendon reaches to distal phalanx
Extensor pollicis brevis tendon: intact.
Metacarpophalangeal joint: no effusion.
Distal radio-ulnar joint: no effusion.
Case Discussion
A female presented with the blunt injury to the dorsum of thumb followed by loss of movement. The patient was referred for the ultrasound to check for tendon injury. Ultrasound shows the complete tear of extensor pollicis longus tendon, which was surgically repaired.
