Extensor tendinosis - elbow

Non-trauamtic origin of elbow pain on outer side ( lateral aspect ). Pain with movements.

Patient Data

Age: about 45 yrs
Gender: Male

Common extensor tendon  --- posterior fibres

  - There is hypoechoic echopattern involving near full thickness. There is presence of tendon           hypervascularity. There is no tear.


Common extensor tendon  --- anterior most fibres

   - normal echopattern.


Rest of the elbow examination was normal ( images not uploaded ).

Case Discussion

Chronic tendon disease is referred as tendinosis. Hence, term extensor tendinosis is more proper than lateral epicondylitis.  It is the most common tendon pathology of elbow. Etiology is chronic microtrauma.
