Info

There is a small pedunculated bony outgrowth seen arising from the anterior wall of the lateral-most bony portion of the left external acoustic canal, causing subtotal obstruction of the external meatus with proximal diffuse thickening of the soft tissue lining of the bony part of external auditory canal (sub-totally filling the external meatus) and thickened tympanic membrane.

No periosteal reaction or erosive changes of the underlying bone.

Case Discussion

External auditory canal osteoma is a slowly growing pedunculated benign bony outgrowth of the external auditory canal usually at the bony cartilaginous junction.

The main differentiating points from external auditory canal exostoses, that it is usually unilateral and pedunculated while the exostoses are usually bilateral and broad-based.
