Extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma: probable

Case contributed by Dr Hani Salam

Presentation

Young female with hypertension.

Patient Data

Gender: Female

A right para-aortic well-defined mass with heterogeneous intermediate-to-high HASTE/T2 and low T1 signal characteristics. Enhancement post contrast is seen.

Ultrasound

A well-defined solid mass lesion noted in the paraspinal region at the mid abdomen measuring. No significant vascularity is seen.

Case Discussion

Given the location and appearance of the lesion on MRI, the findings are highly suggestive of an extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma (paraganglioma).
