Presentation
A male with a known history of β-thalassemia major presented with shortness of breath and dyspnea.
Patient Data
Diffuse bony expansion, resorption of the trabecular bone and cortical thinning without destruction. There are paraspinal soft tissue masses, also elongated focal soft tissue masses along with the inner aspects of the ribs due to extramedullary hematopoiesis.
The right heart chambers are dilated and pulmonary arteries are enlarged. No pulmonary arterial thrombus was detected.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates the typical findings of the extramedullary hematopoiesis.
Soft tissue masses along the inner aspects of ribs are not a common finding.
