Known carcinoma of the prostate with left groin pain

Patient Data

Age: 85
Gender: Male

Sclerotic mass in the left pubic rami with exuberant new bone formation.

Modality: Nuclear medicine

Multiple foci of abnormal isotope uptake throughout the axial skeleton including the left pubic rami (arrows). Note the full bladder full of excreted isotope. The patient was unable to empty the bladder due to prostate enlargement.

Case Discussion

Bone metastases from prostate cancer are usually sclerotic but rarely associated with such dramatic new bone formation.
