Presentation

Acute onset loss of vision in unilateral eye.

Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Female

Ultrasound of the eye

Transverse sonogram of the eye with high frequency linear probe reveals a floating membrane within the vitreous  humor with echogenic content settled in the posterior dependent portion of the globe. The contralateral side doesn't show this feature.

Case Discussion

Exudative detachment of the retina proper from the underlying pigmented choroid can be caused by fluid accumulating in the subretinal space secondary to hypertension, central retinal venous occlusion, vasculitis, papilledema or tumor
