Presentation

New onset lower back pain and paresthesia of the left lower limb.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
mri

Spondylotic canal stenosis and derangement of the nerve roots are seen at the L4-L5 level on the background of disc bulging, facet joint synovial cyst measuring about 5 x 6 mm arising from the degenerated left L4-5 facet as well as ligamentum flavum hypertrophy.

Discovertebral degenerative changes are noted as multilevel disc dehydration, osteophyte formation, Schmorl's nodes and Modic type II changes are seen.

Disc bulging also is seen at D12-L1 level.

Case Discussion

Degenerative L4-L5 left facet joint synovial cyst exerting compression upon the related lateral recess and exit foramen.
