Presentation
Referral from the maxillofacial department. Facial swelling.
Patient Data
Extensive expansile mottled high T2 signal throughout the subcutaneous tissues of both cheeks. This is slightly more pronounced on the right side, for example with a depth of 11 mm versus 7 mm on the left.
These appearances extend more superiorly on the right to involve the pre-septal space and laterally over the inferior aspect of the temple at the level of the zygomatic arch.
Both the intra and extraconal spaces are normal in appearance. Normal globes.
Case Discussion
The MR radiographer requested a review of the images whilst the patient was on the MR table. On questioning the patient it was elucidated that 1 year prior to the scan she has undergone a cosmetic facial procedure involving the injection of collagen.
