Case contributed by Elsayed Mohamed Elsayed Galbat
Diagnosis probable

A case of left breast cancer with left modified radical mastectomy followed by mammoplasty one year ago. FDG PET CT scan showed moderate metabolic activity around the left breast reconstruction flap.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Female

The inner quadrants of the left breast demonstrate a well-defined, marginally enhancing lobulated area , which follows fat signal intensity in all sequences. This likely represents an area of fat necrosis.

Case Discussion

Fat necrosis can occur in normal breast tissue after trauma, surgery or as a complication after flap reocstruction of the breast. Fat necrosis may calcify over time.
