Fatty replacement of the pancreas

Epigastric pain. Non-diabetic

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Female

As with fatty replacment of the liver there can be fatty replacement of pancreas ie fat in the pancreatic acinar cells,  On the "opposed" sequence the fat and water H atoms within those cells will be precessing out of phase (with a short Te of  around 2.5 msec) thus signal will be reduced compared with the longer Te of say 5 msec where the H atoms are in sync and the signal intensity additive
